Business & Occupation ( B&O) Tax Rate Increase

It appears that there has been some confusion around the Legislative bill that temporarily increases the B&O tax rate for businesses that file under the service category. The Governor signed that bill recently and healthcare providers ARE included in the rate increase. So, for ANY healthcare business that files their B&O tax under the service category, they will see a small, temporary increase in their B&O rate. So, this means, that as healthcare providers, LMP's, along with all other service provider businesses, will see a small increase in their B&O rate. The rate increase is set to expire on June 30, 2013.
Many legislators in this past session wanted to add LMP's to the list of businesses that must collect sales tax. AMTA-WA and our Lobbyist defeated these ideas before they even got into bill form. But, it proved much harder to defend against an increase in B&O tax rate that was across the board for all businesses in a given category.
